Ms. Rucinski is responsible for transforming reading instruction at Gunston, which has boosted test scores 20 percent over the past few years. She also spearheaded the effort to revamp the referral process, which increased instructional time and led to a 50 percent reduction in students being sent to the office. Rucinski prioritizes being in the classroom to give teachers feedback. This has been transformative for many. “Her imprint on my teaching has led me not only to have impressive SOL scores and significant student achievement, said one teacher, “but has redefined what leading by example means.” Colleagues say she is a guiding presence who fosters a family-like climate at a diverse school with students from over 25 countries.

Congratulations to all the Gunston Elementary School staff members recognized FCPS Honors.
