Thinkabit Lab Field Trip
THINKABIT LAB FIELD TRIP
A lucky group of Gunston students were able to participate in a fun field trip to Virginia Tech's Northern Virginia Thinkabit Lab at Falls Church. The whole day experience was chocked full of innovation vs invention experiences to lead students to consider a career in STEM. "Smart technology is the future" and "help to society" were guides for considering what student teams might design and build. There were aspects of physical computing and creative robots in the mix. Student inventions included wind turbines, circuit brain break game, a safe, trash collection, and fidget toys. Students did not want to leave, there was 100% engagement.
Mr Fahy and Mrs Hanna accompanied students on the trip and noted that it was an incredible experience.
Students at Thinkabit Lab learned about technology
First they learned about different tools for innovation and invention
Student teams came up with ideas
Then students were able to build their inventions
Lots of technology tools were available to use in the build
They were able to use various materials
Designed were considered by team members
Everyone got to test out their inventions
Directors shared different career opportunities that students had never even heard about before.
