Breakfast for Our Veterans Day Program

Friday, November 10, 2023 students and staff at Gunston were excited to welcome veterans to the school. A ceremony and breakfast honoring them is part of a proud annual tradition at Gunston.

Students and staff wore red, white and blue.  A special color guard, from the Fairfax Resolves Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution commanded by Dave Cook, was on hand to present the flags. Veterans were honored with a military helicopter flyover. Many local businesses showed their support by supplying delicious food and beverages for our breakfast.  Mrs Garcia our Family Liaison and Lisa Schroeder Math Leader and SCA sponsor worked hard to provide the students and veterans a lovely program.

Helicopter flyover to honor Veterans was a highlight of the day

A father and military member gave a moving speech reminding students about the pride and appreciation Americans have for their service members as well as the commitment and pride the service members have for their country.  He explained how students can be involved in the spirit of service even as students, too. Writing letters to veterans, simple acts of kindness, and volunteering were all ways he suggested students could participate in to show their support. He acknowledged the sacrifice of families.

Student SCA representatives also gave speeches and thanks the veterans at the ceremony. Finally a fun and inspiring musical tribute to all the branches of the military was shared.
