Hard to say who had more fun, the spectators chanting "Go 6th Graders" or the volleyball players. It was a beautiful day for some volleyball playing and a great way to send off our students for the summer.

Gunston sends off the 6th grade class of 2022 (Future High School Class of 2028) with fond memories today. Reminding them that once an Eagle, always an Eagle. We are proud and happy for them.

What a glorious day to be outside and to participate in our Annual Gunston Field Day. The activities were varied and super fun. From bounce houses to volleyball, wet sponge relays to bowling students practiced good sportsmanship and reveled in the sun. 6th graders helped at each station setting up activities and explaining the rules. Everyone had a great a time.

Gunston’s Annual Variety Show
Today students showcased their talents and confidence at our Variety Show. There were great acts from soloists, magicians, whole class dances to comedians and gymnasts. There were even combination acts with tumblers in the background of duets. All of it was held together by our amazing hosts, Andrew and Nico and of course Mr Benton on the sound and Ms McIntyre on camera.
We are super proud of everyone.

Spring testing is starts this week. To build our school spirit, Gunston held a pep rally last week. One grade level was chosen as winners of the school spirit stick, but all the grade levels won the spirit effort award. Gunston students give 100% effort 100% of the time. Students danced and cheered loudly.

Gunston's science fair, supported heavily by the PTA, was held in the gym today. Students came in grade level groups to view science projects from all grades. Project topics included plants, static electricity, dinosaur bones, space and so much more. Selected winners received medals and treats.

Gunston Music Teacher, Randy Benton, accompanied 5 select 6th grade students at the FCPS 6th grade All County Choral Festival this past weekend.
Some students Kaitlyn Wheeler and Elia Botts submitted artwork and were selected to be printed in the program. Over 400 students from all over the county participated in this fun annual program. Stay tuned to channel 21 for the broadcast of this amazing concert.

The first week of March Gunston celebrated Read Across America Week. Every evening teachers read their favorite books to students in a virtual session. During the school day students dressed in various spirit wear to build enthusiasm and to have fun. Mrs Gminski drew names for daily reading prizes for both students and teachers. It was a great week.

Yuki Sensei, Gunston's Japanese teacher, helped her first grade and second grade students through a project based learning experience this week. Students proudly shared their work discovering facts about Osaka Japan. They learned what the seasons were like and what they would need to bring if they traveled to the city. Food and activities in the area were also part of their learning. After creation of their posters and booklets they worked to translate into Japanese and practice speaking with a peer about their projects.

Gunston's Annual Turkey Trot and Fundraiser for the PTA was a huge success. Students from every grade chased "turkeys and eagles" around the field and then raced with their classmates for fastest of the day. Previous Gunston students generously returned to support the school for the day and were warmly greeted. It was a perfect day for running and fundraising. Where can you have choices, set a personal goals to improve incrementally and have fun all at once? P.E. of course! Mr Krayer and Mr Williams set up four different fun rotations then students decide how many or how far and which activity. They work to meet their goals. Once reached, students create a new goal with the same or new activity. This fun process helps students to build personal responsibility and develop persistence. Self satisfaction in meeting goals plus getting some great exercise are other positive benefits students enjoy.
