This third grade language arts class was a rotation of fun learning experiences and activities. Students worked in different rotations for a period time exploring, reading, writing, thinking and discussing.  

Mrs Daugherty worked with small groups on reading.  It was the perfect time for Mrs Hanna to come in and read with some students too.

Some students worked in the back of the room at the See, Think, Wonder experience.  They connected concepts of quantities of salt, fresh and ice water around the world.  They looked at liquid in containers, handled globes and peered at beads of certain colors and quantities.  Then they completed a graphic organizer of their experiences, most of them noting 9 "fingers" of sea water.

Other students cut out words for word study.  Some they sorted by sound and others by VC orders. Some of the words were just images where they had to think about how to spell them first. 

Options to read or and finalize some functional text practice rounded out the afternoon. Students even applauded the opportunity to silently read.  So much learning and fun!

 In math, earlier, students practiced place value concepts with giant number cards.
