Once again, our Gunston Heritage Night was a genuine success. Various cultural aromas scented the air. Delicious bites of home cooked specialties filled bellies. Parents, teachers and students roamed the halls in gorgeous cultural garb. Traditional activities were in abundance. It was a night of delight.

Digital Citizenship Week October 21-25, 2019!
The theme is Media Balance and Well-Being: Developing a Healthy Relationship with Your Technology.
Gunston is celebrating Digital Citizenship Week with spirit days and activities focused on developing healthy habits around technology use. Students will have a choice board to select at least one activity a day that matches the daily theme.

Teachers and staff eagerly cheered for students and families coming to Gunston on the first day of school. Everyone is so excited to meet up with old friends and put new school supplies in desks and get started with luxury of learning.

The weather cleared up just in time for Gunston ES to have the most perfect field day. A slight breeze cooled the soccer kickers and badminton batters. Students frolicked in moon bounces galore while others ran fun water-filled relays. A few rounds of ping pong and pin the mustache on the face made for many laughs. 6th graders ran the events with the maturity beyond their years, helping, consoling and re-directing like champs. Hula Hoops and basketball - endless activity ruled the field. It was a glorious day.

Gunston celebrated sixth grade promotion today. Students thanked parents and teachers. They sang the school song and 6th grade song beautifully. Awards were presented for music, art and various important qualities demonstrated. Tears were shed and cheers were heard. We send them off with pride and the reminder that "Once and Eagle always an Eagle."

Gunston celebrates the First One Hundred Days in style each year. This year’s one hundredth day was one of the finest ever. From parading around the school in “hundreds wear” to “aging booth pictures” students learned what 100 looks like in multiple ways.

Fourth grade students at Gunston have just been slammed with an M&M tax. It will cost them varying amounts of M&M’s to draw, sit or use the computer. One student opted, today, stand and color for recess to avoid the hefty chair tax. And computer time will cost as high as 4 of those colorful candies. Such hardships!

When the teacher handed out assignments (AKA Official Documents) earlier today- BAM, 2 more M&M's please! Students were annoyed to learn it would cost them sweetly to pay those darned taxes and to get their work done.

As the days go by there will be more items and activities taxed. Parliament has been rumored to be tax exempt with some saying that they may even keep those delicious little taxes for themselves.

Gunston spent the last week building a caring community by observing Red Ribbon Week and Dare to Care Week. Students dressed in various spirit week options to demonstrate their awareness of these very important topics. The week ended with a Harvest Walk and canned goods collection (see Feature called Harvest Walk for even more photos).

Even on the last day, Gunston students are happy to be at school. Working hard all year, means having some serious fun on a glorious sunny day. Check out some of our fun with volleyball and the Annual Ice Water Bucket Challenge.

Gunston is happy and sad to promote our family of 6th grade students. We are so proud of their accomplishments and excited for their futures. We send them off with a reminder to give one hundred percent, 100% of the time.

Students and teachers at Gunston have ended 2017 with fun and cheer and giving. Wearing pajamas, ugly sweaters, dress up for performance and red noses they have celebrated their uniqueness and music skills. At Gunston we know the value of our differences. We collected warm accessories for the needy on our giving tree, reminding us all to care about everyone.

Students at Gunston were celebrated for a number of successes related to hard work and great behavior with a quarterly Ernie Award Certificate.
We are very proud of all their efforts.
