Friday, November 10, 2023 students and staff at Gunston were excited to welcome veterans to the school. A ceremony and breakfast honoring them is part of a proud annual tradition at Gunston.

Red Ribbon Week and “Dare to Care” - Gunston celebrated living bully-free and drug-free this week. Along with these events and building on the kindness theme, Staff and students collected canned goods for the Annual Gunston Harvest Walk to support the local food kitchen, Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC).

Gunston students attended the National Symphony Orchestra's Young People's Concert for all 4th graders in FCPS mid October.

Gunston did it again. Today visitors from all over came to see our AVID in action. From student volunteers to class demonstrations everyone eagerly shared their experiences with AVID - highlighting the authentic benefits it provides.

What happens when a group of 3rd graders research and collaborate on ways to support the eco-life in Gunston's special garden courtyard?

Gunston's 2023 promotion ceremony for 6th graders was help June 13. After procession into the gym thru balloon arch students sang the Gunston song for their parents. Presidential certificates were awarded along with the Principal's, class and other honors and acknowledgements. Students sang "High Hopes." They reflected on their accomplishments at Gunston and considered their next steps for success. After the annual slideshow with baby pics and the year's activities, teachers sent them off with congrats.

April 19 is Purple Up day across the nation. Gunston is delighted to celebrate our Military Connected Students annually with a fabulous breakfast buffet.

This month at Gunston, we were excited to share our work with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination.) As the first elementary school in the Fairfax County Public School division to embrace this program it was natural that we could provide a showcase event to share with surrounding school districts and FCPS schools who are also interested in using AVID tools and programs in their schools.
