This third grade language arts class was a rotation of fun learning experiences and activities. Students worked in different rotations for a period time exploring, reading, writing, thinking and discussing.

Gunston's Annual Turkey Trot and Fundraiser for the PTA was a huge success. Students from every grade chased "turkeys and eagles" around the field and then raced with their classmates for fastest of the day. Previous Gunston students generously returned to support the school for the day and were warmly greeted. It was a perfect day for running and fundraising. Popular Girls on the Run establishes more goals than just running. Fun, camaraderie and even troubleshooting school day issues top the list. Several dedicated coaches and a big group of girls inspire each other to be healthy physically and mentally.

Staff and students gathered to honor our Veterans. Breakfast and photo ops were shared with our heroes before the ceremony. Then the SGA provided information and poetry before a musical salute to our honored guests. Students gathered, clapped their thanks and waved as they finally returned to class after the festivities.

Where can you have choices, set a personal goals to improve incrementally and have fun all at once? P.E. of course! Mr Krayer and Mr Williams set up four different fun rotations then students decide how many or how far and which activity. They work to meet their goals. Once reached, students create a new goal with the same or new activity. This fun process helps students to build personal responsibility and develop persistence. Self satisfaction in meeting goals plus getting some great exercise are other positive benefits students enjoy.

Students gather food for the hungry to support LCAC. After a few moving words by the SGA and Ms Patterson of the LCAC the students walked/danced in the Harvest Walk celebration. They were excited to learn they had collected more than a 1600 hundred items. Check out the video to learn which classes brought the most.

Gunston students and staff can take the opportunity to participate in Hour of Code during Computer Science Week (December 7th-13th). You've seen the craze for learning code. But what exactly is coding? Coding is what makes it possible for us to create computer software, apps, and websites. Your browser, your OS, the apps on your phone, Facebook, and this website -- they're all made with code.

Third graders dig into the soil to collect data for the latest science project-base learning experience. They used their 5 senses to get clues about each plateful of dirt.

Once again, our Gunston Heritage Night was a genuine success. Various cultural aromas scented the air. Delicious bites of home cooked specialties filled bellies. Parents, teachers and students roamed the halls in gorgeous cultural garb. Traditional activities were in abundance. It was a night of delight.
