After a week of collecting canned goods for Lorton Action Community Center for distribution to our area families, Gunston students embarked on the Annual Harvest Walk. Music played and staff and students celebrated the end of a week of community caring activities.

Gunston spent the last week building a caring community by observing Red Ribbon Week and Dare to Care Week. Students dressed in various spirit week options to demonstrate their awareness of these very important topics. The week ended with a Harvest Walk and canned goods collection (see Feature called Harvest Walk for even more photos).

Even on the last day, Gunston students are happy to be at school. Working hard all year, means having some serious fun on a glorious sunny day. Check out some of our fun with volleyball and the Annual Ice Water Bucket Challenge.

Gunston is happy and sad to promote our family of 6th grade students. We are so proud of their accomplishments and excited for their futures. We send them off with a reminder to give one hundred percent, 100% of the time.

One of the prizes for our Reading Week was taping the principals to the wall. Everyone took part in the action. So much reading equaled so much fun.

Students and teachers at Gunston have ended 2017 with fun and cheer and giving. Wearing pajamas, ugly sweaters, dress up for performance and red noses they have celebrated their uniqueness and music skills. At Gunston we know the value of our differences. We collected warm accessories for the needy on our giving tree, reminding us all to care about everyone.

National Computer Science Education Week is December 4-10, 2017. Global Hour of Code is also this week.

This is an important opportunity for students to try some coding games at school and at home.

Students at Gunston were celebrated for a number of successes related to hard work and great behavior with a quarterly Ernie Award Certificate.
We are very proud of all their efforts.

Students worked hard on project-based learning that explained the details of many types of rocks.
Projects were displayed in a science walk offered up to the entire school.

Ms. Rucinski was recognized at the annual FCPS Honors event as the 2017 Region 3 Outstanding School-based Leader and one of five finalists for the 2017 FCPS Outstanding School-based Leader award.
